  Wines from La Mancha
La Mancha is not only Spain’s largest wine region, it is the largest region in the world. With wine an integral part of the region’s history, the La Mancha D.O. covers about half of the Castile-La Mancha region, stretching from just east of Toledo, south to Puertollano and east to La Roda.

With a relatively flat terrain and a continental climate of extremes, La Mancha does not get much rain due to its encirclement by mountains.

Red and white wines are made in La Mancha with the white predominating. The main grape (80% of the acreage) is Airen from which the tiny grapes produce a very tasty and crisp light white wine. Yet the reds are fast becoming a great value force in the wine industry, thanks to a mixture of grapes including Tempranillo and Garnacha.

La Mancha is able to produce a tremendous variety of fine and often great value wines. It is certainly giving the competition a run for its money.
